It has been cold and rainy. The dining room and Lido deck were cold enough for a sweatshirt. I guess it takes a while for the ship to react to temperature changes. Outside it has been in the mid 40s and the seas continue to be calm.
Breakfast on the Lido has not been crowded. I suppose some eat in the dining room. My guess is most are still asleep at 7am. The Lido deck is full of tables and chairs and counters where one can get a plate of food. Almost all of the food has to be put on a plate by a server behind the counter. 2 eggs over medium? Ask and you shall receive. Cereal, fruit, yogurt, nuts, etc are available in self serve area. The amount and selection is massive. An army could be fed here. I am amazed at how particular some folks can be with their meal. They can be rather rude and demanding. “I said a little”, “ I only asked for two strips”, “That’s all?”. The comments are endless but the staff always respond with a smiling face hiding what they must really be thinking. There is not a lack of staff anywhere on the ship and they are all very well trained. Some of the passengers can use this training. There is a lot to be learned about people at breakfast if you take the time to watch.
Sea day = gym day. I was on the treadmill again today. I’m amazed how the spinal surgery fixed my knee pain. My running shoes are in my missing bag but I am able to run in the one pair that I have. Left leg is still weak. I hope the running will stimulate the nerves to muscles I haven’t been able to use. These nerves were being crushed by my spine and unable to communicate with some muscles.
Afternoon trivia was all about Iceland. There was a lot we didn’t know. What we did know is that we can’t pronounce any of the locations, waterfalls, or other attractions. The spelling of these things is also a huge challenge. Sharing this trivia would be frustrating to all of us. This will be a trivia free day!
We did go to see a movie in the theater after lunch. Too late for popcorn. People show up very early just for the popcorn and the theater was packed full of people munching popcorn and rustling the paper bags. The movie “Still Mine” was about a couple in their 80s. She has dementia and it is getting worse. He is trying to build a smaller house and is fighting city hall concerning permits, plans, approvals, etc. Good movie. Produced in 2012. True story of a Canadian couple.
It was a dressy night in the dining room. I did have my dress shirts and ties but no jackets or pants. I was able to use the one pair Of pants I bought in the ship store. It is getting a lot of use. Air Canada called again today to confirm the ship’s location on Tuesday. Promising news for my bag.
We listened to the piano trio rehearse. They were a bit better than last time. The first violinist kept playing a wrong note but he did finally correct it. The pianist is in charge and she does a lot of head shaking. The cellist is solid. Later they performed on stage and it was a good performance. The first violinist then began to sing a duet from a Disney musical with the young female vocalist we heard the other night. Wasn’t happening. She is all attitude. At least she has that. We ended up walking out.
We did listen to the quartet that we heard the other night. Solid group. They played some great classics. Solos were well thought out and very tasty. We enjoyed them. Still at a ten.
Clocks ahead another hour tonight. We will be on Iceland time tomorrow.
