The number of icebergs around Greenland was incredible. I’m really surprised that the disaster that happened in 1912 did happen. Traveling quickly at night without today’s technology seemed like a foolish thing but I guess foolish things still happen today.
Today was the mariner recognition event held on the world stage. This is the Holland America loyalty program. The 4 and 5 star mariners are invited and medallions are awarded to those traveling on the HAL ships for a certain number of days. We received silver medallions for 300 or more days aboard last cruise. Gold is the next level at 500. There is really no benefit to receiving these but we did get free drinks and a nice luncheon. One person was recognized for having over 2000 days aboard.
The luncheon was a nice touch. Holland America has the most repeat customers in the industry. We sat with a group of six others and each talked about their next cruise. Half were Canadians.
