The train ride back to Budapest was uneventful other than the AC at the beginning kept turning off. In the middle of the night it finally stayed on as it should and I was able to get some sleep.
Final thoughts on Budapest. Another typical European city. Lots of tourists. Definitely reminds me of pre-pandemic crowds. I miss going on vacations when everyone else stayed behind the mask. Much more expensive than Poland. Hungary has prices in local currency and euros. Like Poland, they have not adopted the Euro. People are wary of other European countries that are needy and hence do not adopt the Euro because of mistrust of the financial situation. The Hungarian HUF is a victim of inflation like our own dollar. Everything is priced in the thousands. I believe one of our dinners cost 55,000 HUF. It reminds me of a time when we were in the Dominican Republic and took a taxi to dinner. “That will be 2 million pesos sir”. It certainly makes me feel better about our own government passing the “Inflation Reduction Act”. Our prices only tripled.
It was nice to get back home to Krakow but the heat is taking its toll. Our apartment has no AC and we haven’t needed it until now.
We decided that Saturday we will visit the Schindler factory and that will be our final stop. We have booked a hotel at the airport on Sunday for our early flight on Monday. Sunday it will be 97 here and the apartment will be unbearable.
