It’s early on Monday morning. 2:15 am. Time to get up. Text message from Air Canada says the flight from Detroit to Montreal is delayed. 5 hours. No notification that this means we will miss our connection to Sydney. We will. Many phone calls to Flight Ease which handles bookings for HAL.
It is not easy to make same day flight changes. About 4 hours later we had a flight at 4:10 pm to Toronto and then a connection to Sydney at 9:50 pm. This puts us into Sydney at 1:17 am local time.
Courtney drove us to the airport and we were off to the 25 day cruise that started 2 days ago.
The tour we have scheduled for Tuesday morning was a go. The tour company owner offered to pick us up from our hotel wherre we would leave our luggage. He would then take us to the port where we would begin the tour with other folks. After the tour he would take us back to the hotel to get our luggage and then return us to the port to check in on the ship. What service!
We landed in Sydney a few minutes early. Great. The airport was small and we exited the plane on the tarmac. Inside the terminal there was only one belt for bags. 20 – 30 mins of waiting and the belt began to move. You guessed it. One of our bags didn’t make it.
We filed the paperwork at the Air Canada desk for the missing bag and then took a cab to the hotel. I tried to remember what was in the bag but it was packed last Friday and I don’t really remember. I know that all of the electronics were in my carry on.
At the hotel I discovered that all of my clothes were in the other bag. I had only the tshirt and shorts that I had on this morning and would be wearing all of the next day.
Air Canada will cover “reasonable” purchases for items we need. Where to buy them is the question. Maybe one of the stops tomorrow is the local Walmart.
I am going to bed at about 2:15 am with the feeling that I will be on the ship without any of the clothes I need for the next 20 or so days.
Bob will pick us up at 8 am. Time to get some sleep.
