Husavik, Iceland

Today we have a tour in the afternoon. This is a tender port and we are meeting on land at 12:15. Today we will experience the GeoSea Sea Baths.

These baths were created after drilling for hot water in the mid 20th century turned up water that was too rich in minerals to heat homes. Instead of letting this go to waste, they created baths that overlooked the ocean. The water is about 102 degrees.

This port doesn’t have much to see and we thought this would be fun. The baths are filled constantly from water deep in the earth. The baths are out in the cold Icelandic air. One must take a shower in the bath house before entering. Walking from the bath house to the baths is an interesting, very chilly experience.

We had 2 hours in the baths if we wanted. We felt like rubber after an hour and went back to shower and change.

The evening entertainment was Michael Washington. Michael covered Marvin Gaye, Lionel Ritchie, and other black artists. Behind him were clips from Soul Train and other black artists dancing. He was backed up by the house band. They were pretty solid. I gave the whole performance a 7. Nothing particularly wrong with it. It just lacked anything exciting.

We called it an early night as tomorrow is another tender port and our tour leaves at 8 am. This means tender tickets and getting in line early
