Gdansk to Krakow

Today is a travel day. The train from Gdansk back to Krakow is 5.5 hours but we are looking forward to relaxing and reading on the trip after all of the walking we have been doing.

We grabbed a few items at a store in the mall yesterday so we had something for breakfast at the apartment and also for lunch on the train.

The train station was only a 15 minute walk from the apartment. We grabbed our backpacks and enjoyed the walk over. It was a nice sunny day and we found ourselves on the platform one hour early. Just a habit developed from years of travel. Our train was scheduled at 9:02. You may think that the train will show up at 8:45 or so. You would be wrong. There are too many trains on the track for loose scheduling. The train pulled up just after 9:00. Lots of people getting off. Lot’s of people getting on. At 9:02, the train started moving. Butt in seat!

This train had 2 seats and along both sides of a central isle. Complimentary water was distributed early. A ticket check came a bit later. There was a bicycle rack on this car and there were 4 bicycles in it. Could be some exciting bike trips to plan in the future!

I couldn’t help continuing to think about the driver we had yesterday and the years of communism they had to put up with. That idea remains here in Poland even after the connection with the former Soviet Union is gone. The socialist idea that leads to communism always sounds so nice to some. Use other peoples’ money and give it to me. This never works. It never has and never will but attempts to try again are always there.

Our ride was smooth and we arrived in Krakow right on time. We did a 20 min walk back to our apartment, had dinner there and did our after dinner walk with a stop for some ice cream. It’s nice to be back home!
